Dear Marie,

Thanks. I'll try a few of your seasoning suggestions.

After you talked about your love of shoes. I spent some time strolling up and down the women's shoe aisles. While my Dad tried on shoes. The MANAGER - who had ignored us. Came bustling over to ask if he could "HELP ME".

So I'm getting into trouble doing shoe research, already!

I used to play quite a few gigs as part of a Jazz Quartet. Trumpet. Learned a lot listening to Louis Armstrong.

On a Marketing Note -

Actually - My friend Randy - Who I've kept in touch with for 3 years. Because he's sitting on Massive Munny making leverage (From referrals alone) - owns a sun porch remodeling franchise.

Until recently he was forced to use the corporate ads. Which don't work in Baltimore, Maryland.

And I couldn't help him. So he said.

So My plan is to let him Lose munny (for 7 - 10 days) like a drunken Sailor on the radio. (Because I can't head off the stampede.) While educating him on what has worked for my clients in the past - on radio. (Which he is Not doing.)

You will chuckle...

Randy did ZERO research. (I'm doing all this now - in the background.)
Did Not hire a specialist company.
Did not create a biz plan.
Has relied on Sandra the Advert Exec to write his 30 second ads. (Oh they're BAD.)
Is talking about committing for 6 mo or 1 year of ads - at 150.00 per 30 sec spot.
Has zero customer feedback.

Are You Cringing/wincing, flinching yet?

==========
==========
However... On The Positive Side...

Randy has 25 full time sales people. (Which is where 100% of his sales come from.)

Has NEVER used a Referral System.

AND Randy is personally testing the 4 Hot Button Getting Question System a 426 million mentor taught me. We discussed going slow with it. Because With past clients the only draw-back is rapid 10X more s ales growth.

I quizzed him until he divulged that 80% of his buyers are doctors and nurses. (Which he hadn't told Sandra. So at least they are targeting the right niche.)

He's agreed to track the # of leads he gets from Radio ads week by week. (Which will maximize his pain. AND cut his cash loss.)

He's agreed to let me interview some happy customers. To create a Testimonial laden REPORT to give away in his radio ads. (Sandra's ads are 1-step. Asking listeners to call an 800# and talk to a salesperson. If he gets 5 prospects I'll be shocked.)

Thanks for chatting with me.

Even tho I'm working with Wild eyed, Crazed Entrepreneurs. And you are working with larger companies perhaps a few of the basics are the same.

A - Get their trust
B - Get them to start tracking what they're doing to establish a start point. (I guarantee to 2x their income or they don't pay.)
C - Make the decision maker (s) munny
D - Arrange matters so the owner gets the credit.
E - Find out how they already pay salespeople and suppliers. (Then duplicate that. Amazing how often I get paid more than I would have requested this way.)

Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn

I'd use lots of freshly ground pepper [tons more flavour than if you buy it ready ground - and I usually use mixed pepper berries], sea salt, and a pinch of cayenne along with lots of chopped fresh flat leaf parsley. Knowing me, I'd also saute the onions in olive oil on a low heat to bring out their sweet flavour - after having first tried it with raw onions as you suggest.

The tiny leaves from a few sprigs of fresh lemon thyme would also be lovely in this dish!

As for UK radio, I don't listen to it much up here in Liverpool. My favourite music is jazz and they don't have a station dedicated to jazz up here in Liverpool - shame...

Hopefully your friend undertook [or hired a specialist company to do] sufficient market reseach before launching himself into this venture, and that he prepared a realistic business plan to help him understand the costs and risks involved. Then it's a question of developing a product that fits an existing gap in the market, targetting his audience in a proactive fashion, getting lots of customer feedback to improve his service, and making sure his product quality meets or excels what his target customer is looking for. Sounds easier than it actually is - getting all the pieces of the puzzle to fit is tricky, because you then depend on people and external suppliers.

Thank you. It's very kind of you.

However, I must admit to being a lover of all things highly flavourful and spicy. The onion in the casserole would certainly contribute lots of flavour, but I would add sea salt, coarsely ground black pepper, and some fresh herbs - even just a handfuln of chopped flat leaf parsley would add intersting colour and taste. Then, being a lover of aged cheeses and having lived in France where there are so many delightful varieties, I would substitute the cheese slices for aged Canadian cheddar, aged French hard cheese such as a nutty Comte, or perhaps a Parmegianno Regianno! All washed down, onced it was baked and golden, with a lovely glass of wine or two ;->
